Reflecting Faith In Worship: The Use Of The Means Of Grace
This is our final installment of
mission statements submitted by congregations.
We thank all who participated.
We noted at the outset that the “winners” would be published, and we
have published them all. In our next
issue we will seek to address the use and abuse of congregational statements
and examine our Synod’s new mission statement.
We hope this will spark genuine and constructive conversation regarding
our common mission and our public proclamation of it.
Our first statement this issue comes
from Holy Apostles, Hickory Hills and its pastor, Jennie Bogard:
It is the mission of Holy Apostles
that all we do, say and stand for consistently reflects the love of
Christ. We are committed to teaching,
reaching and providing for the needs of all God’s people.
Our final statement comes from First,
Harvey and its pastor, Thomas C. Knutson:
We believe that the Triune God who is Father, Son and Holy Spirit wants our congregation to:
Gather for worship around the
proclamation of the Word and celebration of the Sacraments;
Teach and Share our faith in
Jesus Christ and relate it to life issues of today;
Witness to people in our
community and the world with the Gospel message:
Reach Out with God’s concern
for the whole person and creation.
As members we pledge to give faithful
support and active participation to insure and further the mission and
ministries of First Lutheran Church.
